Highfield Park

Client Group and Admission Criteria

Highfield Park is registered in total for up to 53 adults whose primary diagnosis is a learning disability. The Park offers high quality community-based living accommodation ranging from one-person cottages up to homes shared by eight people, each with its own specialist service aimed at a particular client group.

We specialise in the care, management and rehabilitation of adults with borderline to profound learning disabilities many of whom may also have:

  • extreme complex needs
  • a forensic background
  • autistic spectrum disorders
  • physical disabilities

Our philosophy of being non-judgemental in our approach and working collaboratively with other external agencies and professionals, has enabled the development of highly trained staff teams able to respond to some of the most challenging behaviour seen outside the country’s medium secure units.

The Service and Staff Team

To respond effectively to the individual needs of each service user, MHC aims to help service users develop the necessary skills through comprehensive risk management and achievable care plans. This allows them to progress through integrated care pathways into more independent living. There is a strong emphasis on integrated community living and social inclusion.

The range of services within the Park means that we can tailor the care packages to meet the individual’s needs, and provide the opportunity for step-up services should they be required, and step-down services as they become appropriate.

Bespoke individual learning programmes are created with the involvement of the service users, their key-workers and their care managers. This is also done with the support, guidance and input of the multi-disciplinary team. Emphasis is placed on vocational, education and communication skills together with recreational and leisure activities.

The teams at Highfield Park have a positive and empathetic approach towards service users’ individual needs. Positive relationships and behaviours are developed and sustained in a safe, supportive and therapeutic environment.
