Information for Service Users

Finding the best home for you, a family member or friend can be a daunting task. We at MHC believe providing the right information without any jargon words is very important when making that choice.

We want to help you to make the best possible choice.

Upon arrival of anyone into our services, we will provide you with a booklet specially written that gives lots of information about the home in which you will be living, and other information such as the surrounding area (we are lucky to have many of our homes in one of the most beautiful areas in the UK), activities and, of course, answers to questions we expect people will naturally want to ask.

Many of our homes are in the beautiful North Wales countryside - fantastic for those who have the energy and like the great outdoors, but peaceful enough if you fancy a quiet place to chill out with friends. We also have homes in the Merseyside area and one in the heart of Liverpool (in Anfield actually - great for Liverpool football supporters of course!).

Shopping in LiverpoolOf course, there are the usual supermarkets, libraries, gyms, cinemas, swimming pools, country pubs and cafes to go to, but we are also not far from the cities of Liverpool, Chester and Manchester for those who need some serious retail therapy! North Wales is steeped in history and there are many places of interest to visit such as Brenig Reservoir if you like sailing or fishing, many huge castles, like Caernarfon and Conwy and museums. Rhyl is one of the many seaside resorts close by with its amusement arcades, theatre and plenty of shops. We even have a Mountain Zoo not far from one of our homes in Colwyn Bay.

If you fancy getting involved with Work Experience then the staff team will help with this. You could do things like assisting in shops and supermarkets; gardening; washing cars (we have lots of home vehicles that get very dirty!), etc. We also have quite a few service users who have taken up NVQ Forestry Courses (we have lots of woodland round us), college placements and in-house Art and Craft courses. At Tomatoes grown at the Garden ProjectHighfield Park we have a great garden project where you can grow your own fruit and vegetables.  In fact, anything you fancy doing we will be happy to look into arranging for you.  We also have Cedar Activities Centre at Highfield Park if you are feeling creative!

As far as the homes are concerned, all of them have single occupancy bedrooms with most having en-suite facilities. We encourage you, as service users, to express your individuality through the colours you want in your rooms, soft furnishings and personal items. In fact, it is important that everyone participates in the daily upkeep of their home (with staff support of course!), for example, shopping, choosing menus, planning activities and holidays and the dreaded house-work (it has to be done!).

Entertainment!MHC has a great staff team who are always there to offer advice and to support you every day. We also have some specialist people who look after you too - these are psychiatrists, psychologists, occupational therapist, social workers, nurses and chiropodists.

But it's the staff team and other service users in your home that will become your closest friends. You probably have a lot of other things you want to ask but we hope this will give you an idea of what it would be like living with us. If you want to speak to anyone about our services then we have a special number for you to ring which is 01824 792114 and the person on that number will have a chat with you.

We've also attached a list of question and answers that you might want to ask us.  All you need to do is click on the link below called 'Service Users questions and answers'.
