LocationNew Hall Independent Hospital is a 25 bed all male service, which consists of four wards including a 2 bed bungalow designed for more independent living. New Hall is situated in the village of Ruabon, near Wrexham.
The large detached property is set in extensive grounds including an ornamental lake and woodland. The setting of the hospital allows the patients plenty of space and tranquility, whilst still having excellent access to community facilities on the doorstep.
Patient Group and Admission Criteria
The hospital specialises in the care and treatment of individuals with a functional mental illness and mild learning disability.
New Hall offers specialist services for individuals who may:
New Hall can cater for patients who are informal or detained under provisions of the Mental Health Act.
All admissions undergo a robust 13 week assessment period with identified timeframes for care review meetings. At the end of this period, a comprehensive care pathway is produced covering all aspects of treatment and rehabilitation with defined objectives and outcomes.
The service model at New Hall is split into four separate, ward based components:
Clwyd Ward is an eight bed rehabilitation service with intensive nursing support. This locked door service provides intensive assessment, treatment and support for a patient group who due to diagnosis, behaviours or past offending/restriction orders, require treatment within a robust physical environment.
Alyn Ward is a nine bed open rehabilitation ward on the first floor at New Hall.
Tryfan Ward is a smaller, six bed open intensive rehabilitation ward, also on the first floor. The point of transfer onto Tryfan Ward should mark the beginning of the discharge phase of the patient's placement at New Hall.
The Pre-Discharge Bungalow is a two person flat type environment attached to the main hospital building but separated from the wards. It provides a real world domestic setting for patients who will be discharged into supported tenancy type accommodation.
New Hall is complemented by a community based, step down service in the town of Denbigh. A move to our residential service ensures a continuity of care for patients leaving the hospital environment.
The RMO / Consultant Psychiatrist, Dr Chandra Ghosh, has over 30 years experience within forensic services.
The hospital also benefits from an Occupational Therapy Department which focuses on creating structure and a balnce between self care, leisure and productivity fro all patients at New Hall.
This highly-staffed service is designed not only for those patients who have been receiving care in medium secure units and psychiatric intensive care units, but also for people who require short term admission from community based services.
